High Five for Friday #8: Snorts, Stitch Fix, and a Triathalon

April 30, 2015

It's been almost a month since I did a High Five for Friday post!  Between keeping the move (that didn't happen) a secret, getting used to the idea of a new little one (instead of a move), and all the craziness of regular life, I just didn't have the time or energy to put anything together.  It feels good to be back in my regular groove and wrapping up our week here with you!

Fire and the ER

April 26, 2015

We've been spending a lot of time in the ER with this boy lately.  I know I have a tendency to exaggerate but I think that three times in one week qualifies for "a lot of time".  The first one was last weekend when something was swollen that shouldn't have been.  I'll spare you all the details on that one other than to say that it scared the crap out of D when it happened and resolved on it's own.  The next visit was an infection on Water's big toe.  After five years here, I'm still surprised how fast they can develop in this environment.  Water had a hangnail on his toe that was bothering him on Tuesday afternoon so I pulled it off.  He wore socks and shoes on Wednesday because he had soccer practice after school and then work them again on Thursday because Sky had soccer practice after school.
When I picked the kids up on Thursday afternoon, his teachers told me something was wrong with his foot, that he'd been limping on it all day and that it was bleeding.  I took his sock and shoe off to find that in just two days of being in socks and shoes (he was even clean, since he'd had a bath on Tuesday night!) his hangnail had developed into a terrible infection.  Sky headed for soccer practice and Fire and I headed to the ER.  Antibiotics and hot foot baths were prescribed and Fire's foot started looking better the next day.
I've saved the best for last:

Changing Directions

April 23, 2015

I used to imagine that someday I would have it all figured out.  Someday the things that are hard now would be easy.  Someday life would just be smooth sailing and I would get there as soon as I reached some unknown point.  Whatever that imagined milestone was, I must have missed it.  Or perhaps realizing that it doesn't exist is the milestone itself.  At no point in life does it look like everything will get easier, that all the questions will be answered, that the direction of life will be known, safe, and straight.

High Five for Friday #7 : Busy Days!

April 9, 2015

High Five for Friday!  This was a busy week for us since it was the start of the kid's soccer season and the end of hula for Sky (with practices every day and a recital tonight).  Going into the week, I dreaded how we were going to manage it all but here we are at the end, doing fine and ready for the weekend. A weekend in which we have nothing planned, I might add, to make up for everything we did this week!

Although he wasn't the one with the busy schedule this week, Water is #1 again.  Look at what this baby can do:

From the Archives: Fudge-y Chocolate Cake for Two

April 8, 2015

This is the perfect thing if you need a chocolate fix and don't have anything on hand. It's easy to make and fast to cook. The center is cake-y and the outside is fudge-y. We eat it in the bowl with two spoons but you can turn it out onto plates too. When a cousin of D's sent us this recipe, she called it a single cake serving but I think it makes so much cake that we split it in two.

Happy Easter, From Our Family to Yours!

I hope you had a blessed day, full of joy and family.  Ours was busy but fun, with church, baptisms, egg hunts, and dinner parties- more pictures coming soon!

Mommy Reality Challenge #33: Bedside Table Treasure Hunt

Leapfrog and Lipgloss

The challenge this time is to share what your bedside table looks like.  I swear, I usually try to keep mine organized because it's the one space in the house that I really have full control over and I like things neat, but since these challenges are about nitty-gritty parts of mommy-hood, I took the pictures as-is.

I see unfinished sewing projects, a cross-stitch diagram for a project I haven't started, some work papers, a letter from our family Compassion sponsor child, and a stack of books (including the requisite parenting book!)
