Hgh Five for Friday #34: Summer Recap

One of the reasons for my little blog hiatus was because we were BUSY this summer!  We had so much going on that it was hard for me to find the time to sit down at the computer and record any of what we were doing.  Now that school has started I have a little bit more free time (and free brain space!) so this High Five is a look back at our five biggest moments from this summer

#1 Water's birth mother came for a visit
We have a really great long-distance relationship with Water's Mama D and we were so excited when she asked if she could visit for a few days.  Enabling a closer bond between Water and his birth family was one of the many reasons we moved back to the states.

#2
Water turned 2
This sweet, loving, talkative boy is still in the 100th percentile for height and weight, and still the most joyful, curious kid.  I can't believe that he's two already and I can't wait to see  what this year has in store for him.

#3
My family came to visit
My brother and sister-in-law and their children flew down from Minnesota and my dad came in from Pennsylvania.  We had two weeks of family time and it was wonderful.  The kids played together like they'd never been apart and D and I got to have real adult conversations around the dinner table.  A little slice of heaven!

#4
We went to a wedding in California
Some good friends from Kwajalein got married this summer and we traveled to Big Bear Lake to celebrate with them.  It was so nice to be on the road again!  I think that's when our family is happiest; when we're seeing and doing new things and getting out of our routine.  The wedding was beautiful and we had so much fun getting to know Stephanie and Josh's families.

Hiking is hard!

Five out of six family members and few smiles is pretty good, right?

#5
Ciela started first grade and was diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder
I've wondered about it for a while and it was nice to have an explanation for some of the behaviors that we see.  Sky is seeing a wonderful therapist and we're working with her teacher to find ways to help her function a little better in class.

We're sticking with gymnastics (picture courtesy of Water)  and since most of her behavior issues come up at home, we're trying some new things here to help her calm down and regulate herself when she starts to escalate.

I ran out of numbers but not out of summer fun!  I guess this is where the post just turns into a photo dump of cuteness:

The Tucson Children's Museum is our happy place!

Water wanted Sky to make him "pitty!"

It was a little hot for the zoo this summer but we went once or twice

We visited the Pima Air and Space museum for an evening open house.  Fire wants to be a fighter pilot now...

Sky made chocolate pudding pops almost every week

I upgraded my ride

Donuts!

Back to the Children's Museum

  We found the rattlesnake bridge!

I took the kids to a farmer's market... and got ice cream

Bubbles!

Children's Museum again!

How was your summer?  Did you get to do everything you wanted to do?
