The Blessings of a Broken Dishwasher
About a week ago our new dishwasher just stopped working. That's a real crisis for a family our size but at the time, we also had family in town so the poor thing was doing double duty. Luckily the dishwasher was new enough to still be under warranty and we were able to get a service appointment. Initially I was a little miffed at having to stay home all day since the repair man could come any time between 8 and 4 but then D, Sky, and Fire left for the day and a whole block of time with just my little boys opened up and I realized what a gift it could be to just be with them for a day after such a busy summer.
All in all, it was an ordinary day but it was so nice to not be able to do any where, to have to keep our day small. It's amazing what kind of perspective shift a little inconvenience can bring. Oh, and the dishwasher is fixed!
Water and I had a mini-dance party to my new favorite song:
Everything Comes Alive by We Are the Messengers
Baskets of laundry finally got put away
With nothing to get dressed for, Earth got to stay in his G-diapers all day
Water got out for some puddle jumping during Earth's morning nap
And then we played Break the Ice until lunch time
(over and over and over...)
Brothers
Goofy selfies on Mama's phone
Sky has early release on Wednesdays and after getting her homework done, she was literally climbing the walls
so she got wrapped up tight like a tortilla for some calm down time while I made dinner.

This might be one of my favorite blog posts you've done! Love your perspective. Attitude. Willingness. (And ability to play Break the Ice over and over. You're a more patient woman than I am!) :) This made my heart happy. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou're so sweet! It really was nice to just be home with the little boys after such a busy summer, and then having family in town. It seems so funny to me now how only having two kids, even at these still demanding ages, feels easy to me now when it would have about killed me just a few years ago!
DeleteGlad your dishwasher is fixed. It can be nice when we are forced to slow down sometimes. Your kiddos are adorable!
ReplyDeleteThanks, and yes, it was such a blessing in disguise to have to spend the day at home.
